Solar UPS Price in Karachi

A solar UPS keeps the essentials running during a cut and uses the sun to charge the battery. Here is how to size one for a small home or shop.

What a solar UPS is

A UPS is an inverter with a battery that takes over when the grid fails. A solar UPS adds panels and a solar charge controller, so the battery can fill from the sun and not only from the grid.

In practice, most solar UPS units are small hybrid inverters. The difference from a full home system is scale. A UPS normally powers a few circuits, such as fans, lights, a TV and a router, and leaves the air conditioners on the grid.

Sizing a UPS

An illustrative home with a few essential loads.

  1. 1

List the loads you want in a cut

    Three fans at 40 W each is 120 W. Six LED bulbs at 10 W is 60 W. A router is 12 W. A TV is 80 W. The total is about 272 W.

  2. 2

    Check the surge

A fridge or pump can draw several times its running power when it starts. Allow for it.

  3. 3

    Pick the inverter

A 1 kVA unit gives about 800 W of usable output. That covers the 272 W with room to spare.

  4. 4

    Size the battery

For 5 hours at 272 W you need about 1.4 kWh. With lithium, divide by 0.9 to get about 1.5 kWh. With tubular, divide by 0.5 to get about 2.7 kWh.

  5. 5

    Add panels

To refill 1.4 kWh in a day at about 4.5 units per kW, you need roughly 0.4 kW of panels, so one or two 585 W panels.

UPS or full hybrid system

Which one fits depends on what you want to protect.

Battery choices

Most small UPS units use tubular batteries because of the lower cost. Lithium costs more up front and gives more usable energy per rupee over its life, plus a slimmer size. Our lithium and tubular guides compare them.

Check that the battery voltage matches the inverter. A 12 V unit takes one battery, a 24 V unit takes two in series. Mixing old and new batteries shortens the life of the new ones.

Do not overload a small unit

The most common UPS fault is a load larger than the label allows. A unit running near its limit runs hot, trips often and wears the battery. Keep the total load well below the rating.

Questions people ask us

Short answers. For your own property, send us your electricity bill and roof details.

Ask on WhatsApp

An inverter with a battery that takes over in a power cut and can charge from panels as well as the grid.

A small one usually cannot. An AC needs a larger inverter and battery, which is a full hybrid system.

Divide the usable battery energy by the load in watts. A 1.5 kWh lithium battery on a 270 W load runs about 5 hours.

Tubular costs less up front. Lithium gives more usable energy and lasts longer. Compare the total cost over the years.

It depends on the rating and the battery. Send your load list and we will quote.
