Solar Inverters
Inverter types, sizing, brands and what to check before you buy.
A hybrid inverter runs your house from solar, battery and grid, and decides which to use. The features behind the price are what separate a good one from a poor one.

A hybrid inverter combines three jobs in one box. It converts panel power to the AC your home uses, it charges a battery, and it connects to the grid. A plain on-grid inverter does only the first job.
When the sun is up, the hybrid inverter feeds your loads from the panels first. Extra power charges the battery. If the battery is full, the extra can go to the grid, depending on how the inverter is set. When the sun goes down, the battery supplies the house. When the grid fails, the inverter switches to a separate backup output within a short time.
That backup output matters. Many hybrid inverters have two AC outputs: one to the main board and one that is the backup line. The backup line is the one that stays alive in a power cut, and it is usually limited in size.
Prices are for the inverter only. Battery, panels and installation are separate.

Two hybrid inverters of the same size can differ a lot in price. These are the usual reasons.
| Feature | What it does | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Backup output size | How much load runs in a power cut | Is the backup output the same as the rated power? |
| Switch-over time | How fast backup starts after a cut | Is it quick enough for computers and the fridge? |
| Battery voltage | Low-voltage 48 V or high-voltage packs | Which batteries are on the compatibility list? |
| Battery communication | Lets the battery talk to the inverter | Is the exact battery model approved? |
| Grid export control | Limits or sets the power sent out | Can it be set for net billing? |
| Phase | Single or three-phase | Does it match your meter? |
| Parallel option | Joins two or more units | Can I add a second unit later? |
The size is set by what you want to run, not by the size of the panel array.
Not every inverter sold as a hybrid can send power to the grid under a utility agreement. K-Electric's guidelines ask for the inverter data sheet and inverter settings on the vendor's letterhead as part of an application. If you plan a grid connection, ask the PPIB pre-qualified vendor to confirm that your model is acceptable before you buy it.
News reports in April 2026 described outages of 15 to 20 hours a day in some Karachi neighbourhoods and 2 to 4 hours in others. If your area has long cuts, a hybrid inverter with a battery is the only solar setup that keeps the house running.
If cuts are short and rare, an on-grid system saves more money for the same budget. Our main inverter guide compares all three types, and the lithium battery page shows how to size the battery.
If a part fails under warranty, we file the claim with the brand and replace the part once the brand approves it. The time depends on the brand's approval. Repairs under warranty are done by the brand. All other after-sales service is done by us.
Short answers. For your own property, send us your electricity bill and roof details.
Ask on WhatsAppThe price depends on the size, the brand and the features. Send us your load list and we will quote the right size for the day.
Many can run on solar and grid without a battery, but the backup feature then does not work. Check the datasheet of your model.
It depends on whether the AC is an inverter type and on its start-up surge. Read the label, then add your other loads. We size it for you after we see the appliance list.
If your area has long power cuts, yes. If cuts are short and rare, an on-grid system may be better value.
Often yes, if the inverter and battery model allow it. Ask about expansion before you buy.
