Solar Geysers
Solar water heaters: how they work, tank sizes and when they pay off.
You can run appliances from a home solar system, or buy products built for solar. The right route depends on the appliance and how often you use it.

The first way is to run a normal appliance from your home solar system. The panels feed the inverter, and the appliance plugs in as usual. This is the most common route for air conditioners, fridges and fans.
The second way is to buy a product designed for solar, such as a solar street light or a DC water pump. These products carry their own panel, battery or controller and do not depend on the house system.
Neither route is better in every case. A home system gives you flexibility. A dedicated product can be cheaper for one job in one place, such as lighting a gate or pumping water from a tank.
A quick guide to the appliances customers ask about most in Karachi.
| Appliance | Usual best route | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Air conditioner | Home solar system | Running power and start-up surge on the label; inverter-type AC draws less |
| Water heater (geyser) | Solar thermal heater, or electric geyser on the home system | Thermal heaters use sunlight directly and need no inverter |
| Street and gate lights | All-in-one solar light | LED wattage, battery capacity and pole height |
| Water pump or tubewell | Solar pump with a drive, or the home system for small pumps | Pump horsepower, depth and daily water need |
| Fans and coolers | Home system or DC fans | DC fans use little power and suit small systems |
| Fridge and freezer | Home system with a battery | A fridge runs day and night, so it needs a battery to run at night |
Appliance prices depend on brand and size. These are the items customers ask about most.

The air conditioner is the biggest load in most Karachi homes in summer, so it decides your system size. Read the label for the running power in watts, and ask the seller for the start-up current.
An inverter-type AC ramps its compressor smoothly and draws less at start. A fixed-speed AC kicks in hard and needs a larger inverter. If you plan to run the AC through the afternoon, the sun is strongest at the same time, which suits solar well.
Running the AC at night needs batteries, and a large battery bank. Many households run the AC on solar by day and switch to the grid at night. We can size either approach after we see your appliance list.
Ask these questions about any solar light or pump product.
Short answers. For your own property, send us your electricity bill and roof details.
Ask on WhatsAppYes. Size the system for the AC's running power and start-up surge. Daytime use suits solar well. Night use needs a larger battery bank.
A solar thermal heater uses sunlight directly and needs no electricity for heating, so it is efficient. An electric geyser on the home system is simpler to install but uses a lot of power.
Good ones do, if the battery and panel are sized for the LED. Ask for the run time on a poor-sun day.
Yes, with the right pump and drive. Tell us the depth and the daily water need and we will size it.
