Solar Appliances
Solar AC, geyser, lights, pumps and fans: how to power each one.
A portable power station and a folding panel can keep a phone, a laptop, a fan and a router running through a power cut. Here is how to size one.

A portable solar kit has two parts. A power station is a battery with an inverter and sockets built in. A folding panel charges it from the sun. You can also charge the station from the grid when power is available.
It suits small loads: phones, laptops, a router, lights, a small fan. It does not suit an air conditioner or a heavy pump. For those you need a fixed system.
Prices are per item. Panel and station are priced separately.

A worked example. Check your own device labels.
A station labelled 500 Wh holds 500 watt-hours.
The inverter wastes some energy. Plan on using about 85 percent. That is about 425 Wh.
A router at 12 W, a fan at 35 W and two LED bulbs at 10 W each add up to about 67 W.
425 Wh divided by 67 W is about 6.3 hours.
Approximate running power. Read the label on your own appliance.
| Device | Typical power | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Phone charger | 5 to 20 W | Low load |
| Wi-Fi router | 10 to 15 W | Runs all day |
| LED bulb | 5 to 12 W | Efficient |
| DC or inverter fan | 30 to 50 W | Far lower than a basic AC fan |
| Laptop | 40 to 90 W | Depends on use |
| LED TV | 50 to 120 W | Depends on size |
| Fridge | 100 to 200 W while running | Starts with a surge, so check the station's peak rating |
A 200 W folding panel in good sun gives roughly 0.8 to 1.0 kWh over a day, at the planning range of 4 to 5 hours of full output. So a 500 Wh station recharges in about one sunny day from empty.
Haze, clouds and a poor angle all cut that. Keep the panel in direct sun and tilt it toward the sun, not flat on the ground.
Ask for the watt-hour capacity, the continuous output in watts, the peak output, the battery chemistry and the number of charge cycles. Check that the panel's voltage and connector match the station. Ask who handles the warranty. Cheap stations often overstate capacity, so read the label against the datasheet.
Batteries dislike heat. Do not leave a power station in a hot car or in direct sun. Keep it in shade with air around it. Do not cover the vents while it charges or runs.
If the case swells, smells or gets very hot, stop using it and keep it away from other things until it can be checked.
Short answers. For your own property, send us your electricity bill and roof details.
Ask on WhatsAppDivide the usable watt-hours, about 85 percent of the label, by the fan's watts. A 500 Wh station and a 35 W fan run about 12 hours.
Not usually. An AC needs far more power than most portable stations give. A fixed system is the answer.
A 200 W panel in good sun can recharge about 0.8 to 1.0 kWh in a day. Haze and clouds lengthen it.
It depends. A portable station is easy to move and can use solar directly. A UPS is fixed and often cheaper for the same capacity.
