How solar panel prices work in Karachi

A solar panel is sold by wattage, and its price follows the watts. A 585 W panel costs more than a 150 W panel, but the bigger one is usually cheaper for every watt you get. So compare quotes on price per watt, not on price per panel.

To get price per watt, divide the price of one panel by its rated watts. A quote for Rs 30,000 on a 500 W panel works out to Rs 60 per watt. Ask each seller for the same figure and the comparison becomes simple.

Panel prices in Pakistan change with the dollar rate, shipping cost and stock at the port. That is why this page does not freeze a price. We quote on the day, and the table below shows the panels people ask about most.

How to compare two panel quotes

Two quotes that look the same on the surface often differ in the details. Check these points before you decide.

  • Wattage and model. The quote should name the exact model, such as a 585 W N-type panel, and not just say "solar plate".
  • Warranty. Ask for two warranties in writing: the product warranty against defects and the performance warranty on output over the years. Note who honours them, the manufacturer or the dealer.
  • Datasheet. A genuine seller can give you the manufacturer datasheet. It lists wattage, efficiency, dimensions and the temperature coefficient.
  • Test certificates. Quality modules are tested to the IEC 61215 standard for design and IEC 61730 for safety. For a coastal city, ask whether the model has also passed IEC 61701 salt mist corrosion testing. These are industry standards the manufacturer tests against. Ask the seller for the certificate for the exact model.
  • Tax on the invoice. Imported panels carry sales tax. The invoice should show it, so you can see what you are really paying.
  • What is included. Panels alone, or panels with structure, cables and installation? A low panel price can hide a high installation bill.

How many panels does your system need?

A 585 W panel is about 2.3 m by 1.1 m, so each one needs roughly 2.6 square metres of clear roof. These are planning figures. Your survey decides the final layout.

System sizePanels of 585 WActual array sizeRoof area needed
3 kW6 panels3.51 kWAbout 16 m²
5 kW9 panels5.27 kWAbout 23 m²
6 kW10 or 11 panels5.85 to 6.44 kWAbout 26 to 29 m²
10 kW18 panels10.53 kWAbout 47 m²

Panel size differs by model. Check the datasheet of the panel you choose. Roof area excludes water tanks, stairwell rooms and shaded corners.

What Karachi conditions mean for panels

Karachi gets about 8.1 hours of sunshine a day on average, which is a strong base for solar. The conditions around the panel matter just as much, because they affect how long the system lasts.

Heat. The average daily maximum reaches about 35.7°C in May and June. A panel runs hotter than the air around it, and output falls as the cells heat up. The datasheet lists a temperature coefficient. A smaller loss per degree is better for Karachi.

Salt and humidity. Karachi sits on the coast, and average relative humidity is around 61 percent, rising to about 75 percent in August. Salt in the air attacks frames, bolts and connectors over time. Ask for corrosion-resistant mounting hardware and sealed connectors.

Dust. Dust sits on panels and cuts output until it is washed off. Plan for easy access to every panel so cleaning is simple and safe.

Tax on solar panels

Pakistan applied a 10 percent sales tax on imported solar panels from the 2025-26 budget. A higher rate was discussed ahead of the 2026-27 budget, and reports in June 2026 said the budget kept the 10 percent rate. Rules can change, so ask for the tax shown on your invoice and do not rely on an old quote.

Several well-known brands make good panels, including Jinko, Longi, Canadian Solar and Trina. The right choice depends on your roof space, budget and warranty terms. Compare datasheets and warranty paperwork, not just the brand name.

With 585 W panels you need 9, which gives a 5.27 kW array. Smaller panels need more pieces. Your roof area and shading decide the final layout.

Yes. Solar plate is the common Pakistani name for a solar panel or module. Sellers use both words for the same product.

Yes, they work well, with some loss in output on the hottest afternoons. Good mounting hardware and sealed connectors help the system last in humid, salty air.
