Why 585 W became the common size

A few years ago most homes in Karachi used panels of 300 to 450 W. Manufacturers then moved to larger cells and larger panels, and 550 W to 600 W models became the main product. The 585 W panel sits in the middle of that range.

For a buyer, the advantage is simple. Fewer panels give the same system size, so there are fewer clamps, fewer connectors and a shorter installation. A 5 kW system needs nine of them.

The disadvantage is size and weight. Each panel is large enough that two people should carry it, and the structure must be built for it.

What a 585 W panel looks like on the roof

Sizes differ by maker. These figures are typical for panels in this class, so confirm with the datasheet of the panel you choose.

PointTypical figureWhy it matters
Length and widthAbout 2.3 m by 1.1 mDecides how many panels fit your roof
Area of one panelAbout 2.5 square metresAdd space for walking paths and tilt gaps
WeightRoughly 28 to 32 kgTwo people to carry it up safely
Open-circuit voltageRoughly 50 to 53 VSets how many panels one string can hold

These are typical ranges for this panel class, not the figures for one specific model. Read the datasheet.

Connecting 585 W panels to an inverter

Panels are wired in series into strings, and each string feeds one input of the inverter. The inverter datasheet gives a maximum input voltage, a working voltage window and a maximum input current.

Because a 585 W panel has a high voltage, the number of panels in one string is limited. Too many panels in a string can push the voltage over the inverter limit on a cold, bright morning. Too few can drop it under the working window in the afternoon heat.

The current is the second limit. Larger panels draw more current, and some older inverters were designed for smaller panels. Always ask the installer to check the string design against the inverter datasheet before ordering.

Counts for common system sizes

Use these counts as a first guide.

  • 3 kW system: 6 panels, giving 3.51 kW.
  • 5 kW system: 9 panels, giving 5.27 kW.
  • 6 kW system: 10 or 11 panels, giving 5.85 or 6.44 kW.
  • 10 kW system: 18 panels, giving 10.53 kW.

Your roof area, shading and the sanctioned load on your meter can all change the final number. The system size guide shows how to pick the size from your bill.

Tax and the invoice

Imported solar panels carry a 10 percent sales tax. Reports in June 2026 said the 2026-27 budget kept that rate, but rules change, so ask for the tax on your invoice and compare the total, not only the panel rate.

Ask on WhatsApp

The price depends on the brand, the series and the dollar rate on the day. Send us the quantity and we will reply with an itemised price.

Six give about 3.5 kW, nine give about 5.3 kW and eighteen give about 10.5 kW. Your roof and inverter limits decide the final layout.

About 2.3 m by 1.1 m for most models in this class, which is roughly 2.5 square metres each. Check the datasheet of your model.

No. The inverter must handle the voltage and current of the panels. Ask your installer to check the string design against the inverter datasheet.

For most rooftops, yes, because fewer panels make a simpler installation. For a narrow roof or hard access, smaller panels can be easier to handle.
