Installation
The installation process, how to vet a solar company and Karachi site issues.
The cost of installation depends on your roof and your cable run, not only on kilowatts. Here are the factors that move the price, and how to compare quotes.

When someone asks for the installation cost, they usually mean everything except the panels and inverter. That includes the mounting structure, the cables, the breakers and surge protection, the earthing, the labour and the commissioning.
Some quotes bundle all of this into the system price. Others list installation as a separate line. Ask each seller which way they quote, because a low system price can hide a high installation bill.
The cost depends mainly on your property. The factors below explain why two homes of the same size can get different quotes.
Installation is often included in a system price. When it is quoted alone, the rate depends on roof access and cable length.

Each factor adds or removes work.
| Factor | Why it changes the cost | What to tell the installer |
|---|---|---|
| Roof height and access | Panels and structure must be carried up | Floors, stairs, lift, ladder only? |
| Roof type | Flat slab, sloping or sheet roof need different fixing | Roof material and condition |
| Structure height | Raised frames cost more steel | Is there a water tank or shade? |
| Cable run | A long run needs more cable and larger size | Distance from roof to inverter |
| Inverter location | Needs a cool, dry, safe spot | Where is the distribution board? |
| Earthing | A good earth needs a rod or pit and a test | Is there an existing earth? |
| Battery room | Needs ventilation and space | Where will the batteries sit? |
| System size | More panels mean more labour | Panel count and layout |
Use this as a checklist when you compare quotes.
A visit to measure the roof, check shading and plan the layout.
A galvanised or aluminium frame, bolted to the slab or beam, not weighted down.
Matched connectors, UV-rated DC cable and neat routing in conduit.
DC and AC breakers, surge protection on both sides and a tested earth.
A test run, monitoring app set up, warranty papers and cleaning advice.
If you want a grid connection, the approval process adds costs that are not part of the installation. K-Electric lists a generation licence fee of Rs 1,000 per kW and a charge for meter replacement. A PPIB pre-qualified vendor files the application, and may charge for that service.
We are not a PPIB pre-qualified vendor, so we install the system and you apply through a vendor. Our K-Electric guide lists the documents and the steps.
Thin steel rusts in salt air. Undersized cable overheats. A missing surge protector can lose you an inverter in one storm. Ask what the installer does differently from the cheapest quote you have seen. The installation guide explains how to vet a company.

Often yes, but not always. Ask each seller what is included before you compare totals.
Yes. K-Electric lists a licence fee of Rs 1,000 per kW and a meter replacement cost. A vendor may charge for filing.
Usually yes, because panels and steel must be carried up and the work takes longer.
Only if the owner agrees to the installation. Shared roofs need the building's permission.
